Military series III, does it have a different water pump? Why?

I've had a bad noise which I'd worked out is either the alternator or water pump. I thought it might be the viscous coupling on the fan but was surprised to see that there isn't one, just metal fan blades bolted directly to the water pump pulley.

I've seen a 7-bolt military water pump listed which has me questioning if that's why it's a constant fan and if I need the pump, is there anything else to identify it or is it as simple as just count the bolts?

Also, I'm thinking I might get an electric fan and fit it to the front of the radiator behind the grille. I've seen the revotech kit. Is it any good? Well explained instructions (particularly the wiring?). Any others to consider?
 
Do you have the mil manuals?
They would give you a diagram of the pump and fittings, (not always correct though), a part number and also and alternatives that might have been fitted for whatever reason/s.

OK, let’s find you some manuals then.
The military registration will be on the seatbox side under the driver’s seat. Do you have that? Maybe post a pic of that plate. Some pics of the vehicle itself would be handy, also.
 
What engine? How many blades on the fan?

Not wise to assume original engine. Serial number of engine will tell you.

Rebuild kits for the bearings are available, as are new pumps from turner engineering.

The military engines were designed to cope with stationary duties, so some had extra blades on the fan, and an extra oil cooler.
 
The military reg was 90-KB-85

This is the fan. I'd not noticed an oil cooler, although I've not gone looking for one.

What's the first three numbers of the engine serial number? Looks like a civilian 5 bearing unit, late series, so would be post rationalisation.

I did receive it, thank you very much. I've not had a chance to open it and have a proper look yet. I've been spending every free minute trying to get my gearbox back together.

Also useful to get the right alternator as i've just mullered my one getting it apart!
