If the correct child seat isnt available, a child over 3 years of age can use an adult seat belt if the journey is all of the following:
- unexpected
- necessary
- over a short distance
there it is again

define emergency ?? could be the mrs is late from work and you have to pick up the kids, could be the mrs has the booster seats in her car. could be any number of things.
Child seats are not designed to be used in side facing seats, so you cannot use them. The law states that children over 3 must use a child seat unless it is not suitable to fit one, as is the case with side facing seats. They can also sit in the rear of a vehicle without wearing a seatbelt if no seatbelt is fitted. Children under 3 cannot be seated in a side facing seat, unless for short trips in an emergency. There are also no requirements for seatbelts to be fitted to side facing seats. What is the legality of having kids in the rear of the defender with side facing seats do you need to have 3 point harnesses
Im just looking into getting my first defender and my main concern is around this middle seat at the moment, is it possible in a 90 to fit a child seat in the passenegr seat and one in the middle seat with myself driving? Im looking at getting a 90 with just the 3 front seats and my first job would be to fit a seat in the back but i will have a period of time with just the front 3. I only have my kids on a weekend and make short trips with them so as long as they fit im laughing! Appreciate any advice.
