Hi all,
Been experiencing problems with rear wiper, intermittent front ,rear window heater etc and pretty sure it's my mfu which is an amr5360 beige unit. The unit is expensive new and not common secondhand, however the earlier model mfu ie the black model is easily available to me . question is does anyone know the consequences of trying the black older unit instead.

The black unit is not compatible with the later system that's fitted to the D1.
I know the symptoms, including no key-in, lights-on beep or delay to the interior lamps, plus no rear fog lamps, my unit failed back in 2011 the replacement cost £130 back then from Rimmer Bros.

Yes disccool that's when mine failed also . Somebody suggested it was heavily taxed during those severe winters 2010 and 2011 the MFU overheats . Read somewhere some electrical services operate with the earlier black unit just wondering if somebody could confirm so, as I fear doing damage if that's incorrect.
I can obtain an older black MFU immediately and perhaps use it until I find correct amr5360 in a breakers.

There was a couple of posts in the past where a black unit was tried and it didn't work, but what the specifics were... were not mentioned.
I do know that the beige unit has a circuit for a heated windscreen and the black ones don't.

Update
I acquired an earlier black mfu and fitted it, and the results are not too bad everything works except rear fog lights which have a weird habit of coming on when any door is opened , I simply pulled the fuse number 9 and that sorted it . I could fit a seperate fog switch
When I get a cream coloured mfu at reasonable price I may slot it in .
Hope this helps somebody.
