Members without altzheimers may recall a few weeks prior to Chrimble, i posted a thread about the alternator on my P38 2.5 DSE.
.
Well, having finally removed said alternator... it looks fine... nice and clean actually.
.
What doesn't look so good, is the gator / trunking full of cables / wires that starts out from the large box behind the battery, and ends up supplying the glow plugs and injectors etc, that reside at the top of the engine.
.
It's got hole in it, and about 4 wires have stripped off their plastic overcoats and had some sort of altercation it looks messy i wont lie.
.
Could this be the actual source of my electrical problems? cos if it is, there's a fella i work with owes me his testicals, as i recall him betting them against the alternator being faulty
.
I have photos, and i'm trying to upload them !

That black Box is the Engine ECU housing....

It looks like someone has purposefully sliced the whole loom to me....neat edges and all at the same angle....

Certainly won't help you electrical issues that's for sure - cause, don't know....a hindrance, definatly

Bloody hell, had that been rubbing on something or touching somthing hot

As for your question what do you think :rolleyes:lol

Yeah... it was that swine the pully...!

There's some sort of screw and bracket that should hold the trunking away from the pully's but for some reason, its come away, and the trunking had fallen down, making contact with the pully wheel... However, it was at the bottom, and it wasn't until i moved it out the way to gain access to remove the alternator that i noticed the hole, caused by the fan belt system, as the hole you can see was facing downwards.

Nasty. Sort that then see where you are with the alternator. I agree with Saint V8, that looks like deliberate damage.

If you take a closer look at the left and right ends of the "hole" you can see where the pully wheel has been rubbing against it.

It looks worse than it is as its bent open, so the whole seems wider than it is.

Fortunately for me it happened less than a quarter of a mile away from home, and straight home is the only place i've driven it.
