looking forward to starting a few mods - first one being roof mounted light bar :D

Im lookin at insa turbo special tracks for it, what size would be best? was thinking 205 70 16

as i thought the 235 75 16 might rub on the arches?

cheers

the mirror, haha.

the previous owner was a older gentlemen who used the car for "luxury" cruising/sightseeing blah blah.

Im sure it wont be in the same condition in a few months :D

Okay.

So when "special tracks" say 235 70

are those the measurements right to the top/side of the tread? As i once had a set of specials at 195 70/75 (cant remember) and from rim to top of tread looked a lot more than 70/75

cheers

Special tracks that size will fit, as will any other tyre that size.

Read the guide and you'll be fine ;).

Hiya Rabbithunter, looks like you've got yourself a hunny of a disco there.... I'd look at doin the usual mods first, egr, decat and pump tweak. The tyres look pretty good for the moment...unless you're intending crossing the alps...or the sahara!! And welcome to the Landyzone, hope you enjoy the banter, advice and everything else!!!! LOL!!

how much off roading are you planning on doing?

Special tracks are great off road tyres but they're not so good on road or in the wet and they make a LOT of road noise.

I do alot of driving through fields. rabbit hunting - hence my username :D

sometimes, i cannot afford to be getting stuck, at whatever time of night/morning. otherwise i might have a long night, or a long walk home :D

I understand they make alot of road noise (had some on a vitara) but they are a great tyre, can feel them just chewing through the mud. :D

by de-cat (and a complete guess here) do you mean removing the catalytic converter? if so, then its already been done.

blanking egr .... what does this do?

Oh, and, does anybody care to guess the age of this disco????

:D

Unless the fields you're driving around have a minimum of 12" of mud all over you ain't gonna get stuck with your current tyres. Save your money for something else (like the first bit you break:D).

a friend of mine does pest control in a 1.8 k series gaylander running mondo mode and road tyres, he ain't got stuck yet but I'm waiting for the call........

and there will be piccies!:p

Okay, I guess 1996 TDI ES..... and blanking the EGR means getting rid of the Exhaust Gas Recirc valve. It'll improve engine power and fuel economy..there's plenty of references to it on this forum, and it's really cheap too. youcan get the kits off e-bay for less than 20 quid. Don't bother with big off road tyres for rabbit hunting... I've booted my disco with standard size Hankook ATM Pros.... very little road noise, good price tyres and they're bloody good off-road too!!

well, the high lift jack is on order, once that arrives, i will go test the disco out through a forest that will put any 4x4 (and its driver) to the test.

unfortuneatly, no friends up here that have 4x4s incase i get stuck, so hi-lift jack and shovel it is :D
