Decided to wire up the seats. Got a wiring diagram off u tube and thought I'd wire up the passenger seat out of the cab just to see if the heated side works. It's out anyway to get to battery. Now, ask me how I know that the red and black wires are NOT for the heater. BOOOOOOM.

Just for info:
Seat Motion
Grey - +12v
Purple - Ground
Lumbar
Yellow w/red stripe - +12v
White w/yellow stripe Ground
Seat Heater
Blue - +12v
The yellow plug is for the Air Bag in the side of the seat. I just cut the plug off to get it out of the way. You can't remove the airbag because the cover is the trim at your left shoulder and it is attached to the airbag. Be careful with the wires. In theory it could explode for any reason so you're on your own, oh it did, whoops.

I've got the same colour code but for some reason it showed black and red for passenger heat.

There are various ways of mounting these including runners by mud stuff?( someone will correct me. I used 2x1 box section. With slots cut in the right places, you can use original mounting holes in seat box.

Thanks Mick, I'll be doing the same. MudStuff and other runners don't fit early Defenders/ex-Military Defenders as the fixing points and types are different.

The side airbags can be removed and the covers re-fitted if one understands the risks relating to handling of live airbags and is very careful. I did that with mine as I was never 100% happy with them being in place. I'm not recommending that you do this of course!

Hi

Interesting read. I am intending to put rx8 seats into my 1986 110. Do you have the measurements for the 2x1 you used? Thank you

@Bladerunner9291 , in addition to @mick the builder dimensions, it's worth reading through my seat install thread as this includes some other measurements, the original Mazda RX8 seat wiring diagrams and a video of how to power move the seats by using a 12v supply via the drivers seat connector.

eta: be sure to add relay and fuse all 12v supplies - having a wiring overload [potential wiring fire!] whilst driving is not recommended. I added a fuse box and relays mounted to an alloy plate installed to the inside of the rear cubby box wall. It's works very well and any future fault can be quickly diagnosed.

@Bladerunner9291 here are some photos which show how I put the cut outs in the 2x1 box to enable me to get to the rail bolts. They show the siting of the rail on the bus section so you can still fit a middle seat and close the doors. It's has the 2x1 to allow seat to slide over the seat box seam upstand.

Sorry about repeating the photos. Doing it this way I used the existing holes in seat box and seat rails.
