Ireland is a really nice destination! I'll give you a heads when we go there, next year is Scotland if things don't change, but you never know!
 
Now the only faults to be sorted in order to pass TÜV end of July are:

Left indicator lights and sidelights. While I'm at it I'll also have a look at the interior lights that eorked and than just stopped working. Maybe an oil change for engine and gearboxes, 5W30 or something like that seems a bit to liquid.

Oh, it also came with a bed!

All TÜV relevant issues are sorted now with the notable exception of the horn, somwhow it doesn't get power. It worked before, so I think it is again some earthing issue, strange thing is the horn doesn't work neither when directly connected to the battery... Well, just ordered a new set as one was missing anyway.

Leaves sound deadening, carpets (to be ordered over the weekend), the interior lights and the drawers in the back. The latter will have to pass some trials upfront first so. All in all, I'd say two more weekends!
 
Some major success today, the TÜV was passed successfully! Brakes, steering, structure, lights, emissions all good! Only default is the common self-conservation / oil control / terrain marking feature of gearbox and engine, no idea why that would be bad. Other cars had to replace that with expensive protective solutions, electronic oil level controls and are still struggling at marking parking lots...

Great renovation story, keep up the good work.

I’ve practically been paralleling you since April with a Discovery 1 renovation.

I lived in Germany for 6 years back in the 80s and whilst out there owned an RRC at one point. (77 model).

There was a great off road following with loads of bagger-lochs to play in.

Only took it off-road once so far to park in the south, Langenaltheim. Used to be a quarry of sorts back the day. Some nice obstacles, only failed at one.

Do you have some pics on the Disco?
 
Here is one taken recently.
The notation refers to the removal of the original front bumper but you can see the renovation I’ve been doing to the suspension and steering gear too.

Here’s another one from today - started on replacing the axle/transmission breather pipes. Original front one wasn’t even at the height of the wheels! I think it may have been cut when the inner wing was repaired at some point in the past. Also note new adjustable Panhard rod.

Nice picks! Not that my axles are anywhere near that clean. Breather pipes are a good point so, I don't remember having seen any...

But I do have Disco wheels!
 
Ah, a funny thing happened today. A friend of mine visited. He wanted to start the engine, so I said "sure have fun!". 3 minutes later she started to leak oil. Never happened before (I have the oil stains to proof), turned out one of the hoses between the oil filter and thermostat of the oil cooler radiator blew. So, in itself that's not bad as the hoses are on the list anyway as soon as they give. Bad thing is she is due for a JLR garage service tomorrow... I'll keep my fingers crossed that I can fix it with some tape at least for two days and maybe a dozen km or so...

I'd strongly suggest NOT risking it - the pipes are cheap enough .... certainly way cheaper than new engine ... cautionary tale for you too - I replaced some on a D1 - the pipes were too stiff, and the engine moving about unscrewed a union with the predictable result :mad: - hence the advise not to risk it.... and this is before we mention the mess it created :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes: :mad:
 
No free garage willing to touch British cars, unfortunately. And since don't want to risk to break the filler and drain plugs on the engine and gearbox I don't have much of a choice. So the timing of the oil cooler issue is really bad, I'd have largely preferred that to happen *after* the service, no idea what JLR is going to say about that... But be it, maybe there is a cheap fix like removing it from the engine or something.

Anyway, spares will be ordered tomorrow.
 
So, work intervened again! First, a short summary:

The oil cool leak turned out to be no big deal, except for some ugly stains in the drive wway which are luckily hidden from my wife for most of the time. JLR did a good job, not even too expensive. Replaced one real axle seal, the tank, did a complete oil change (axles, gear box, transfer box, engine) and a general service. Even replaced the front propshaft with a after-market one I had ordered before. nad the tank is not original neither.

Had some time to check the electrics. Did I mention already that the wiring is a nightmare? Well, now the horn is working, as is the rest of the AUX circuit. With the exception of the wind screen water pump... At least the fuse isn't blowing anymore when I try it.

Next steps will be a secondary battery, for stuff like a small fridge, some reading lights, external lights and so on for camping. and the interior, carpets, sound deadening and the headlining. he latter will be made out of wood, with some added storage in the back. Front seats will go to the local shop this week or next week, one by one. After that, front and rear shocks, and she's all done! Except for tyres, and maybe a engine revision one day!

Finally got to work on the insulation over the weekend. Also applied some Terosol undercoating to protect the chassis from small rocks and so.
Cleaned up the shed, found out there's no coolant left, in the shed mean, it is a little low in the car. All other fluids are fine. Might have to take a closer look at the front axle, so.
