They can suffer from battery drain if woken up by some wifi and wireless signals but that can be stopped, even an isolator will not stop a battery self discharging , a solar panel as Data mentioned will sort that provided its not got a large drain.

well lads
Was back at the car for the first time in a while and it's down in power again but different symptoms this time, has no power up to about 20mph to the point its dangerous, takes forever to pull off,but then seems to pull fine after that.
checked the pipe on map sensor that was off the last time and its still connected.
any ideas what might be wrong?

It would be good to get diag on it.

Would it take off around 1750 rpm when the turbo kicks in?

will put nanocom on it this evening after work and check for faults, not sure what the revs are at when it takes off but could take what seems like 10-15 seconds to get to 20mph and then the power kicks in.
Only have it a couple of weeks, was down on power after gettting it but some of the guys here pointed me to the map sensor which sorted it.

Not sure if it will have MAF & EGR or not, the MAF sits in the pipe from the air filter.
Is the inlet manifold alloy or plastic?

only pic i have, not beside it at the minute

So the MAF is bottom right of your picture in the air intake pipe, try unplugging it.
The EGR is the metal bit on the font of the plastic inlet manifold, it's worth pulling off the hose and checking the valve is closed. There is a small rubber vacuum pipe going to the bottom of the circular section, the rubber pipe can be removed and blocked with an M5 screw, only refit for the MOT.
It's worth taking the EGR off the manifold and giving it a good clean, you can then really see if it is fully closed.

thanks i'll hopefully have a look later and report back.

found this at the back of engine, guessing its some sort of tuning box.anybody know if it's any good?

Given your issues I would make sure it is disconnected. The management is tricky enough without third-party add on fiddling with the inputs and outputs.

Also, personal opinion, I wouldn't have a tuning box on mine. I'd have a different chip but no tuning box. Almost all the cracked heads I have seen on here involved a tuning box.

,

I'll disconnect the tuning box so.
should I plug MAF back in and then check for faults?
What should I be looking for on the nanocom?
it has developed the hot start issue as well ,could this be part of the same problem?

Thanks for all the help so far lads

Morning,
Did it develop the hot start after you removed the box?
If the cars performance drops when you plug the maf back in and raises when you unplug it, that would point to an issue with the maf.
On live data (via nanocom) you should be able to see the maf réspond when you rev and hold the engine.;)

Possibly the tuning box is your problem or the EGR is stuck open, the MAF sensor has nothing to do with how the engine runs it is for EGR only. However if the MAF is completely shot in can send the ECM into a fit as it is not receiving expected signals and can go rouge.
