Having the want to change my P38 4.6 to a L322 4.4

The p38 is on lpg and the l322 ive got my eye on is also on lpg. Its a 2003 and done 83K.

Yes or No. ??

They can't be that bad . Can they ??
Do some searches, gearbox, diffs, VANOS, suspension bushes, steering column, ABS ECU, water in the electronics etc poor trim hard seats. Look at the thread by rs2000 custom on EAS problems and by Saint.V8 on HID/comms problems. Oh and they rust.
Put at least £3K to one side for repairs if you do decide to go for it.

2 year warrantee with this one, but if they are worse than a p38 then its not good.
I've read up on some of the problems but they can't all be that bad ??

No, they can't be all bad but it's a big gamble, I know 2 owners, both with the diesel, neither have been as reliable as my P38 and the parts costs are horrendous by comparison, you can renew all 4 suspension bags on the P38 for the cost of one front suspension leg on the L322.
The electronics are stupidly complex.

Don't listen to grumpy :p

I know a few people who have had relatively trouble free ownership with their L322's

Once you've tried the L322 you'll never want a p38 again
Even if they are more cost to own / run

The p38 and l322 are different beasts and therefore cannot be compared

Test drive a 4.4 and make your mind up
Good luck !

We have had the p38 nearly 3 years and fancy a change. There is nothing else that I fancy. Its 4.4 I'm looking at. Need something that goes. The lpg should help with day to running costs.

Well the 4.4 certainly goes some !

What's your budget ?

Don't go with the cheapest as there are some right unloved dogs out there

Obviously uou need a bit of money aside for repairs

Relatively trouble free says it all;)

All that Data says has truth, but its no guarantee that every vehicle will suffer. When I took mine in for the gearbox fail, the specialist had another two on his ramps all with the same torque convertor fail. Cooling systems are weak as they age. Running temps of 108degs push components and split rads and header tanks are common - a cheap fix is to fit a cooler stat which I and a few others have done. Prices can be high for bits as Data says, air bags only have a life of around 8 to 10 years and are still expensive although coming down in price slowly..
My advice is do your research.
