I always noticed the extra din when l opened the vent flaps (on my 2005 110 TD5)

l fitted self adhesive "D" seal at the back of the bonnet and what a difference for £5
Now, when l open the vent flaps the noise level barely changes, and with them closed it's around 3db quieter at 65mph than before (measured with a decibel meter near the dashboard)
Down from 84-85db to 80-81db which is quite a difference.
The difference measured at ear level is less, but every little helps.

Well worth doing, there is a seal on the scuttle but the bonnet doesn't actually touch it so plenty of engine noise gets through.

I've tried the seal along the edges and found it made a difference. Only problem is that it's taken some of the weight off the hinges and now the bonnet rattles 'cos the plastic bushes 'float'. Packing out with shims made from plastic milk bottles sorted that, but another seal along the rear edge might be as effective at removing the slop.

Yes l had hinge rattle as well. l guess the answer would be to install aftermarket hinges, but they are supposed to have side to side play to deal with chassis flex so you'd need to make sure any hinges fitted allowed that.

Sealing the sides of the bonnet did make a difference on mine but only outside the vehicle near the front wings.

I did the sides on mine with an old door seal cut to size. Occasionally get the vibrating bonnet now which is quickly sorted by adjusting those crappy plastic bushes. The bonnet is a lot easier to open now, really pops up when I pull the release.

lol yes that's even cheaper !!

If you want to fit the seal it's much easier if you remove the bonnet, you'll need to get your missus to help with that.
