Main lights

Hi all
Last night I could not get my dipped main beam ( 110 300tdi) to come on? Although the side lights come on and that's it? Also full beam will come on if flicked but will not stay on?
I have checked all the fuses and they are okay.
Do I just need a new light switch on the steering column? But that would not solve the full beam problem.....

prob column switch although worth checking your bulbs first (a power spike from one blowing can pop the other one)
