Gents ,
My 1999 4.0ltr has a gearbox issue which only accurs on kickdown. It operates fine in 4 low and high (tested this weekend) and in normal use. Its not slow at start up i.e when cold and the sport button seems to work and there are no messages on the dash. Problem is if i use kick down at about 4000 rpm it seems to hold and not rev any higher it is as if something is holding it back or like a rev limiter is on, however ease off on the gas pedal and it changes up a gear. The gearbox oil and filter was changed recently and the level is correct. Before i start swapping ECU,s for the gearbox is there a possibility that the MAF sensor could be affecting it?
Any help greatly recieved.

Ok an update on the gearbox fault. Decided today to start at the cheap end ie MAF sensor and second hand ECU for the box. Had just ordered the 2 secondhand parts and decided to check how clean the MAF sensor was. Took it apart and could see it was not filthy but not like a new pin. So put MAF back on and came into work. Gearbox has never felt so good. It will now run all the way to the red line no hesitation, no holding back in either sports or normal kickdown use. Obviously i have disturbed something and it has sorted the problem out for the time being. Will run now untill the other MAF arrives and give an update, Fingers crossed.

Quick update, Secondhand MAF fitted about 5 days ago and what a differance. Gearbox is now super smooth and changes up and down correctly in kickdown and sports mode. Tick over from cold is now less lumpy and fuel consumpsion is now slighlt better. All in all a great result !!!!. Would suggest anyone with similair gearbox fault check the MAF Sensor.

Wasn't a gearbox problem then, just a dead Maf - meaning the engine was getting no or little air, so running very rich with the engine unable to get the correct fuel/air mixture. Had the same thing with mine a couple of years back. Glad you got it sorted.

No the engine was getting air it just didn't know what to do with it. :D:D

And gearbox shift patterns and points are related to engine output, speed and performance.....

With the engine running rough, the gearbox shift points would change (in accordance with the shift map) and delay or expedite shift points to compensate.

Yes that is correct. Morning Ant.
