The M52 engine was fitted loads in SAWhy degrade a Landrover by fitting it with anything from a BMW.
P38, FL1and L322 also use BMW engines. Including the M57 the op is asking about. But why anyone would fit one to a D3 is quite baffling….The M52 engine was fitted loads in SA

so nothing new about Beemer engines in LRs.
Quite, nothing new in all this.P38, FL1and L322 also use BMW engines. Including the M57 the op is asking about. But why anyone would fit one to a D3 is quite baffling….
The TDV6 is a very good engine. Some rep on snapping cranks. But isn’t all that common and seems unlikely on a 2.7I’m actually surprised at the response I’m getting from asking this question.
I’m looking to convert it to m57 as I think it would be a far more reliable engine than the tdv6.
If you are into Rods and Customs, fine go ahead with it, but otherwise, as you say, why bother? The TDV6 is a very good engine. Some rep on snapping cranks. But isn’t all that common and seems unlikely on a 2.7
Loads of the 2.7’s have done well over 200,000 miles no probs.
What specifically do you think you’d gain with the BMW unit? Not too mention how you’d offset the huge cost and R&D of the conversion.
What does? After seeing the fault on the counter (in two parts) in the service department of a local LR specialist seems a fair question to me
The TDV6 is lightyears ahead of the BMW unit.I’m actually surprised at the response I’m getting from asking this question.

CrankshaftWhat does?
Snapped crankWhat does?
And that affects how many 2.7’s??????Snapped crank
A fair few, but probably only a few % in reality. We only hear of broken cranks, but not the thousands of unbroken cranks. And that affects how many 2.7’s??????
Yes the M57 is a superior unit, It's been done but I imagine it wouldn't be easy..I’m actually surprised at the response I’m getting from asking this question.

Turbos too.A fair few, but probably only a few % in reality. We only hear of broken cranks, but not the thousands of unbroken cranks.
When you Google it. It seems mostly low mileage 3.0 engines just out or still in warranty. The 2.7 returns almost nothing as a search.A fair few, but probably only a few % in reality. We only hear of broken cranks, but not the thousands of unbroken cranks.
