Disco 2 M&S lights

Hello all,

Bought the D2 4 weeks ago. Got the 2 M&S lights 2 weeks ago. Intermittent at first, then on all the time. Replaced battery (was not the correct Ah anyway), cleaned the ECU red plug contacts that had tiny amount of oil in, replaced the injector loom today. Test drive and lights have gone, however, not counting chickens just yet. Planning on cleaning the red plug a few more times over the next few weeks.

1. How long should I expect to wait before I can call it a fix?
2. If they come back should I try the XY switch?
3. Would people recommend trying to overhaul the XY switch myself?
4. Is there any way to tell if the injector loom was old or new? The O ring seemed pretty good, which makes me wonder if this was the problem in the first place.

I'd say it should be OK. When I've had this it's always been the battery - either on its last legs or flattened for some reason.

Changing the battery didn’t solve the problem initially. Later, I did improve the contact on the negative terminal though, not sure if this would have such a dramatic effect?

Yeh it would have a big effect. If bad battery or contacts, the ECU can struggle for power if you start up before it has completed its system check and as a result throw up faults.

XYZ switch is pretty easy to do but dont bother unless the lights come back. You have to drill out the rivets, easily replaced by some small bolts. Land Rover in all their wisdom decided to put the AC drain pipe right over the top of the switch so it can cause issues over time, especially climate control fitted vehicles as these run the AC a lot more often without you knowing. Make sure you think about how the XYZ switch goes back in regard to the orientation of the switch itself inside the unit.

Brilliant, thank you. Nice to get some confirmation. I’ve seen a video about diverting the A/C drain. If I can find time I’ll do that too. Been out again today for a longer drive and a little bit on the bumps and working nicely (fingers crossed). Thanks again.
