M & S lights flashing

Hi All - I have a 2002 Disco and, recently, the M & S lights on the dashboard have started flashing, thus leaving the car stuck in 3rd gear (unless I choose reverse, which works). The flashing starts specifically when I go into reverse, though sometimes just when I turn the ignition, though more the former.

I've read a few threads and the problem seems to be with the XYZ switch. Can anyone tell me where, apart from an official LR garage, the problem can be diagnosed and fixed? I live in Manchester.

They are not just any lights, they are M & S lights.....

Mine came on a couple of weeks ago, left sons to come home, started engine M&S lights came on on dash, on way home transmission doing anything it wanted, you name it = it did it, start of in third, not change up down etc etc, anyway, next morning disconnected battery left for about 10 mins, reconnected batt, never missed a beat since, worth a try at no charge.

Try check the battery voltage. Low battery power can promt the M and S lights to flash and cause the problem. As the auto box like just the right amount of eletric on start up to stop it having a moody on ya. But This is only more likely when it's been sat over night , and you start up in the morning , or after its been sat about all day

You lot are nine parts brilliant, I have the same problem on my Discovery-can anyone point in the right direction for the XYZ switch? Is there any way of testing the switch or is it just replace & go?

Put it on a hawkeye or similar to test
