Will do so tonight - would you expect it to read more than 12.5v or so after a decent charge? Also, what reading would worry you when starting? Many thanks!

if it drops under 10V while cranking, it's a very small chance to start

Has anyone fitted a new XYZ switch without the special tool? There will be two of us doing this - is it straightforward? Rave says you need to be in Park to remove the switch and in Neutral to fit new one - why not just be in Neutral to remove as well?

doesnt really matter how it is when fitted ,it only goes on one way ,is adjustable on slotted holes so you can align gear indication with actual selection

Yes it's an easy job just make sure engine is cold as otherwise you will end up with burnt arms as your working over exhaust

Just put it on the way the old one come off, you should have no problem.

Hi, I'm having the same problem but only when cold and use reverse gear, if i just drive forward its ok or if i turn engine off after the lights show themselves then drive away all ok or if i reverse when cars is already warm all ok, question is is it easy to strip the switch down or will there be lots of springs and such like trying to break free as soon as i open the XYZ switch and is it easy to get at, cheers for any help. Paul
It is quite easy to undo the switch and no springs to jump out. Drill out the rivets and lift off the top of the switch. Look up on the Australian site and somebody has a really good guide. If your switch is black then it is even easier than the beige version.

Don't need a special tool just do it in neutral
I was heading towards a replacement XYZ switch until I had the diagnostics run again - after clearing out the old fault codes so M&S are now gone. The Monkeys that sold me the car had replaced a flat battery that fubarred all sorts of settings.

Delighted that all is well now, it's very common for the DII electronics to get completely fùcked-up by a poor battery volts supply.
