LT77s Intermediate Gears / Preload and Tension

Hi all,

Need some expert help on this one.... so watching youtube and reading the service book can i have a 2nd opinion please. For the intermediate gear spacer tension am i correct that you need to do:

1 - Tighten the nut to take out all play in the gears and measure the preload as per the attached photo (pull measure tool).
2 - Now knowing the preload measurement continue to tighten the bolt to ADD an additional 1.25Nm load to the preload measurement, once reached tap off the nut to secure it in to.

if your using old bearings just remove the play, if new once play is removed rock gear withyour hand till you just feel a preload has started

So I really don’t need to measure the preload / tension?

not precisely old bearings just need free play removing .new bearings a little added to cater for bearings running/wearing in,you can feel that accurately enough
