Yes I have some hylomar blue in the shed so I'll use that.
Just been reading the manual with regards to setting the pre-load.
Earlier in the thread you said I want 0-2 thou pre-load. Is that for both the main shaft and lay shaft?
Manual says.
Main shaft, No pre-load and.not more than 0,06mm (0.0025in) end float.
Lay shaft, zero bearing end float and not more than 0,025" (0.001 in) pre-load.
Having pre-load makes sense to me, But the manuals made me all confused now :(
On another note is setting with feeler gauges as per manual the best way

On another note is it best to set it with feeler gauges as per manual.

both the same , once box is tight, before extension case is fitted you want no freeplay in either shaft, with just the feel that tightening front cover has added some preload

Put the front housing on to check preload, Put extension case on and pressed oil seal collar on.

But for now the next job is to put this diff back together and set it up properly.
Don't really understand what's needed for the pinion height, I've seen height blocks mentioned else where.
But I'll probably start another thread for that.
