Said all along freelander will start to be recognised as a budget wagon by the majority soon enough.

A freelander can be driven as well as a defender 90% of the time, it just requires a better driver imo.

Infact I feel that many people rely on the various diff etc and the freelander is a simple 4x4 or 4x2 whatever you want to call it.

But I love them and feel we should be promoting anyone helping produce note products especially at a budget price.

I aim to buy a nice 50mm kit for my commercial after the winter and DD is likely the only man I will go to for it.

Thanks for the comments guys. I'm chuffed to bits with it. The photo shoot was in tixover quarry it was its first time off road since I built it and I was amazed how well it performed. Coming from a 1.8 to a tuned L series of similar spec makes a big difference. It's got soo much more torque it copes admirably with the big wheels. It's got plenty of ground clearence and didn't struggle with anything the quarry could throw at it.
The engine tuning has transformed it. Having gained roughly 50% more power. It's effortless on road now because of the torque and it can get a proper wriggle on when you want it to. The torque is great off road. Obviously it's not a Defender but I really rate it. Spend similar on a Defender and it's still be a beaten up old rot box. Whereas I've got a nice car that is also seriously good fun off road too.
Yes I'm still chuffed to bits :D

The only thing its missing is a snorkel... oh, hang on! ;) LOL

Looking at the vids on YouTube, it looks as though the lack of ground clearance is the main hindrance for a Freelander in comparison with the other LRs. The lift kits seem to resolve this - so I am sure that your L-series will go very nicely indeed :D

The independent suspension gives great clearance where the Disco's and 'Fenders have their diff. They need bigger wheels and tyres to get the same clearance between the wheels, but of course can cope with much bigger to get them higher.
