Hi Guys

Need some help.... I have a 1985 90 with a V8 conversion. The vehicle has a 2" pro comp lift on it.
Recently I have started to encounter a violent wheel wooble at 40 MPH

The vehicle becomes impossible to drive and braking only makes the problem worse.

In order to resolve the problem I have replaced the wheels and tyres, renewed the steering damper, fitted castor corrected front arms and bushes. All track rod ends and steering joints feel good.. Wheel bearings sound good and demonstrate no play... Prop UJs have no, lift in tem and the transfer box feels OK.....
Steering box feel fine.....
Anyone ever encountered this before

regards

Gary

Hi there with that sort of lift it is a funny angle for you props and uj's to work at. A common problem is caused with lifts like this, is vibration through the steering. The sensible solution for this is to fit double cardon props so that they can get over the acute angle of the lift at the front better.

HOPE THIS HELPS

Wouldn't have thought a 2" lift would cause a violent wobble like that. My 110's got a +2" on and I get a bit more noise from the drivetrain but nothing like that. Have you looked at tyres for any damage and what pressure are you running them at? Too much pressure perhaps? Otherwise have you checked yer swivels?

Thanks for all the info.....

I have been busy to day and gone right through the steering today

I put a little more preload on the O/S king pin and renwed both the bushes in the panard rod... Adjusted the tracking as she had a little bit of toe in.

The vehicle drives a whole lot better but there is still a virbration / wobble in the background....
One of my mates suggested fitting and additional steering damper from the track rod to the diff housing, ie like a Range Rover classic... The theroy being that the damping on the steering is closer to the O/S wheel and not on the front steering arm as is the current set up?????
