LPG filling

have you tried running it on petrol only? book figures are (from memory) 12mpg town 22 m/way and 16mpg combined. see what you get on petrol this will give you an idea of what to expect on lpg (10-15% less)
you need to make sure all of the leads , coils and plugs are in top order. Mine was running std champion plugs which broke down after 3000m (lpg runs hotter) it was only running on about 5 1/2 . put some denso platinums in and it is much better. I still only get 12/13mpg round town and 15/16 on a run It would benefit from an lpg service and 'tune up' to make sure it is running sweetly.

Sorry to butt in guys, but my second fill was 66 Ltrs at a cost of £37.88. Now I may be missing something here but to travel 140 miles for £37.88 is pretty poor I think.

We get 150 miles for 48 litres, give or take a couple of miles. 10.558 UK gallons, that works out to 14.20mpg, at 56p a litre £26.88.

You get 140 miles for 66 litres give or take a couple of miles. 14.517 UK gallons, that works out to 9.65mpg at 57p a litre £37.88.

On my consumption which is slightly less than stated as there are start-up distances on petrol, I could go 206 miles on the same fill that you got 140 miles out of.

Filled up this evening 46 litres (£25.75) 166 miles - 16.4mpg, well pleased as only a fortnight ago I was struggling to get 13mpg.

The only difference I had a filler problem so had to run for 150 miles of the hard stuff which appears to have altered the fuelling.

Listerdiesel, yours were the kind of figures I was expecting, as I said this is my first discovery and I really like it but with this fuel consumption it is a tad disapointing. I will get it booked in after the new year for an LPG service and set up, hopefully that will inprove the MPG. Thanks for all your help guys.

We topped up the tanks before the break/shutdown, latest figures for the past four-five days shows 14.49mpg, consistent with previous figures and slightly better as we are a little more cautious in the snow and ice.

We haven't done a longish run for a while, those figures are really just around town and out to the field to feed the nags, a 10 mile return trip through the back lanes.

Local price is £0.559 per litre

Hi All,
I Have worked out that mine is only doing 10 MPG on gas and that,s with the initial warm up on the Petrol,..I Too was hoping for a better return especialy when the guy who I bought it off says he gets 150mile for £18 ,...Think that I was suckered in more ways than one with my Disco...
Even at 10 mpg it works out at around 20 mpg if the cost of lpg is taken into account,...I think that I will have to take the Disco in for an lpg service?

Even at 20mpg (and me with my lead foot) I dont mind for I also have a Auto Pajero which is foot to the floor whilst Towing my boat and has nowt in reserve,....HOWEVER Clip the V8 on front of the boat and with all those extra revs and kick down at 70mph,...it,s well worth it....my mate has the diesel what a difference in performance ,..Great....

It might be useful if we let everyone know which V8 and which LPG system, so that a valid comparison can be made here.

Details of ours is in my sig, the LPG is Zavoli multipoint.

Sorry Peter,..I cannot suss out the signature..but my Disco is a Single Point, fitted at birth by LandRover,3.9 V8i,Auto...Never had one before but upon reflection till now I am pleased that I have it,..Pure Power under foot....My Next Doors have a couple of Cayannes I drove one on a long run towing a car transporter with a Caravan on,it didn,t make no diff to the power so now I have a Vehicle though Not as powerful it is still nice to have a few more "Osses" under ones leadfoot.

Mine's in my sig too, fitted with a Romano multipoint.

Think 150 miles for £18 is a bit ambitous to say the least, at 56p a litre that's a shade over 21 to the gallon.

I'd think that those figures are almost impossible to achieve, but a lot of folks don't know exactly what their vehicles consume in real-life motoring.

Bill's:

2002 Discovery 4.0i Adventurer V8 Auto on LPG

Mine:

Disco 2 V8 5-speed +LPG

Both of ours are 4.0 Thor injection engines with multipoint petrol and gas injection.

Peter

That isn,t what I meant.....I can easily suss out both the Sigs quoted but I cannot suss out how to put a Sig on MINE,...hope that clears it up.

My system is an AEB/ Romaro super stage vapouriser single point injection. I was also led to believe from the guy I bought it off that 20 MPG was the norm on LPG. ( I know its Christmas afternoon but I'm stuck at work till 10 O'clock tonight)

I think that it would be fair to say that the mileage on LPG isn't going to be better with LPG compared with petrol, and the published manufacturer's figures give you what it will do on petrol.

Unless the seller meant the 'equivalent' of 20mpg on gas, but in fact was 10mpg.

I Think that that,s what the Buggers who sell us em mean...

I have a Disco 2 converted to LPG, I usally get about 170 miles to a tank of LPG, the tank is 80litres, the other day the car ran out of LPG after 110 miles(the tank was full) when I refilled the tank I could only get 39litres of gas, the Disco then ran for a futher 90 miles and ran out of gas & would omly take 34litres of gas, has anybody seen this brfore?

Well I've had two Disco's on LPG the first a manual and this one a auto. I got around 11mpg around town and about 20mpg on a good run. Now I have the auto I was getting about 10 round town and 18mpg on a run. Now I have got new spark-plugs set to the right gap, leads, lambda sensors and cleaned the air filter (K&N). After all that I'm getting around 15mpg around town, and recently done a run to Wales though Wrexham covering 136miles and filled up thinking I was low and only squeezed 16ltrs in which means 29mpg. To which I though the pump hadn't push much in, then to my astonishment it ran round down the until empty doing the 15mpg, the ran home pretty much the same. So you can get high figure its just everything needs to be tip-top.

Well i cant comment on the discos with lpg but i had a V8 3.2 Jag last year with lpg on it and it was very up and down as to what it would do.
On the M/ways i was getting around 90 miles to £14 of gas taking it easy which i though was ok.
When i ran it on normal fuel around town the trip computer said 5.9 mpg.
I do fancy a V8 again as my TDi needs more umph.
