LPG converted D2 running badly on petrol

I have a V8 D2 that I've only had a few weeks. It's been gas converted for many years, but it's a mixer system and I've been advised by a couple of people that the Thor should have a proper sequential multipoint system. After a couple of backfires and past bad experience of mixer systems I have decided to bite the bullet and upgrade to a Romano multipoint system.

The problem is that my trusted LPG installer reports that the car runs like a dog on petrol, so he's not happy to start work until we can fix this. I wouldn't really know as I've only done a few miles on petrol in all the time I've had it. We're trying to find out what the problem could be. So far the possibilities are:
1. Damaged air flow meter as a result of backfiring
2. Faulty petrol pump
3. Adaptive settings in ECU screwed up
4. Summat else

Any ideas where to start?

no1 seems to be popular for similar problems others have had. how much is the new kit costing. im still toying with the idea but petrols down so much it would take me 2 years just to get back the install cost

I'm looking at around £1200 for the front end including fitting by a qualified installer. I already have an 80l tank, pipes, and filler, but the front end will be all new.

Whatever you get, make sure the gas ECU is programmable and you have the latest Pan gas valves.

We've got two D2 V8's on LPG, both are Zavoli systems but the ECU is rebadged for many suppliers now.

We can go into the ECU with our netbook and check all of the system including MAF and Lambdas etc.

The other couple of things:

Make sure the vapouriser is big enough for the LPG flow and if you can, put the heater and the vapouriser in series in the piping, vapouriser then heater, not in parallel with T-pieces. Warm up onto gas is much faster this way.

We did our second one ourselves, Tinley Tech supplied most of the kit and we had it checked and set up by Energyshift in Ashford, Kent.

Is it registered on the UKLPG register which you'll need for most insurers?

Plugs and leads and the crankcase ventilation oil separator in the driver's side rocker cover hose stub.

We run Champion double platinum plugs in both of ours, plus Champion double silicon leads or STI / Magnecor leads from the USA. The cheap lead sets on ebay are a waste of time.

I DIYed a car, with Romano, not a difficult job.

But run some Redex injector cleaner throught the car, a tank of BP Ultimate or Shell V Power.

This is very important as deposits dry within the injectors

Shouldn't be an issue as the car starts on petrol every time, so the injectors do get used on petrol daily.

We've not noticed any issues in 70k miles of running.

Ran down from Castleford on petrol the other day having forgotten to switch over to gas after running out, the LPG lights are masked by the steering wheel :D Half a tank went before I noticed

AEB make them all..not rebadged at all.ie aeb make zavoli, romano etc..

i soo disagree about running vaporiser in series, as restricts heater..but hey one is allowed to have differing opions here..mines ted in and is good to go with 400 yards.

re petrol prices..THEY will go up as soon as USA has stopped trying too screw russia..(by telling opec to drop prices to cause economic issues in russia as their fuel revenue hits rock bottom)

and yes sort petrol first!..get it plugged in, clear faults etc before guessing and spending many £ on wrong bits..

re plugs..NGK..COPPER TIP CHEAP ONES ..not platinum..end of.no discusssion..gap them awee bit less than petrol settings for gas..they will last 20000..yes 20k..for £16..
magnacore leads however are real good, but so is bosch..

i run 400+hp boosted, nitros on gas...

Yep, I'll go along with that - esp about the plugs...

Problem is when you switch off on gas, they tend to be a pain then.

I just used to park so I could get BP petrol in one hole and BP LPG in the other.

7.5 years on that car before it was smashed.

The problem is now resolved. The mixture compensation was on the stops at -25%, indicating that it had been running too rich on LPG for a long time. The ECU was reprogrammed, revealing petrol injector problem, probably caused by underuse. After running some strong injector cleaner through it runs as it should. Now the conversion to sequential multipoint can start.
