Hi all,

I want to replace the lower steering joint as it has developed a lot of play. Trying to locate the correct part wasn't a success. Part number QLE500010 is referenced as compatible with D2 2003/2004 on some sites. How about my 2001? Is it possible to replace only the lower joint or do I have to buy complete shaft QME500020?

Any light on the difference between the 2 options is appreciated .

After a lot of searching I concluded that on D2's before 2003 you can not just buy the UJ on its own. For earlier models the UJ is not available anywhere and LR doesn't give a part number for it. The fitting to the shaft is not compatible with QLE500010 that I posted above. The fitting on the shaft changed from chassis number 3A802784.
So I ended buying a used complete shaft with no play from a local shop.

When I take it off I will have a look and see if I can spot the change on the shaft/UJ.

The lower shaft UJ is shown as a separate unit part no NRC7704
Not sure of the availability,
This is for a early MK 1 Discovery 200tdi

Bit of a necro-thread revival, but did you ever find the part? I'm in the exact same boat with my 2002 Discovery 2.
got this belter of a UJ:

The Land Rover site seems to confirm everything on this thread, it proposes a kit to repair it but only for the 2003 upwards. there seems to be a gap for the early 2000 models prior to the 3A8 VIN:

I've found some kits online but they all say the same, for 2003> Discover 2's EG:

I can start a different thread if required. :)
