Still going to clean out the inlet manifold and change the sedimenter ( have a spare ) but still really shocked by the difference. Thing is my disco has still been a nice drive and this is effectively with the turbo doing chuff all. Will this have affected the fuel i will have been using? ....also noticed a complete bitch of an oil leak as well so can't exactly sit back and relax.
You are doing the right thing - go through your Disco from front to back then it'll be in great condition for the next 10 yrs.
Unfortunately having a full service history guaranttees' nothing with these cars, preventative maintenance is the only way to go - they they are brilliant.
Have you changed the engine, gearboxes and diff oils, coolant and brake fluid yet?
Also to avoid braking problems, consider changing the discs and pads on both axles- the parts are cheap it's just your time.
Also, re the wheel bearings, assuming they are still in good nick take them out, wash them out with petrol, dry and them re-pack with bearing quality grease. Thinking about it for the cost (peanuts) just replace with new SKF with good grease repacked.
It's a bit of a bore at first but you'll reap the benefits with better mpg and reliability.
Re-grease the prop U/j's and sliding joint.
Modifications:
De-EGR;
De-Cat - this is where you replace the catt'd exhaust downpipe, a new non-catt'd one costs about £15 from Paddocks !!!
Dave
PS The split turbo hose will have reduced power so you'll have been using more pedal to get anywhere, so yes, it will have increased mpg.
