Could anyone give me the formula for working out the effect of using low ratio when off road or what it is roughly

money in yer pocket - amount ta fillerup x distance travelled / litres used :D :D :D

ferk mat i wouldn't know. pretty sure u could roughly work it out if ya knew yer normal consumption and then took yer ratio in low range inta consideration, but then u still wouldn't have an accurate figure cos it would depend on what gear u gonna b in most of tha time.

The most econimical day I ever had in my Ser II (22mpg) was a day green roading in mid Wales. Low range most of the day, but it was bone dry, so hardly touched the gas pedal. When its muddy however.....
Although generally the higher the gear the better the consumption, if the higher gear is making the engine work harder the reverse can be true, so no hard & fast formula.

i think the 350 miles my S3 did on the back of an greenflag agents flatbed might just have beaten that - even with it's slightly leaking fuel tank :)

I don't remember my Ser II ever went on a transporter, always got me home (not true, it's coming home, once towed 2 miles home by a mate when the gear lever snapped.) Unfortunately I can't say the same for the Ser III, or the Freelander!
