Hi.
New member, open to advice from the forum regarding my 110 and its future.

A few years back I acquired a TD5 110 County, one owner and 34,000 miles from new.
I know the owner and its genuine.

Seats are like new. Had LR covers since new.
All panels straight , with the dissimilar corrosion on the rear quarters showing now.

However , she needs a chassis as it's completely shot.
Along with typical areas like the rear door and a drivers pedal box due to having held moisture under the floor mat.
Bulkhead is fine. No issues.

I'm at the point now where I can't decide if I will ever actually get round to doing the rechassis or not and the thoughts of selling her on have crossed my mind.

Many people have given random figures when pricing it. However, I'm just not sure what is a realistic and achievable price.
What's the general opinion from the forum crew?

Pic of her taken in the summer.
Currently stored in the workshop.

Thoughts appreciated.

It looks like a very tidy Defender, aside from a small amount of body corrosion on the rivets, which is normal. The mileage is low too, which is a plus point.

In terms of whether or not you should get the chassis replaced, it depends on whether you can afford to do so, and if you intend keeping the vehicle. A chassis swap will be at least £5-6k if you pay for someone to do it, even then doing just the minimum. However, you will invariably find other issues that need addressing and things that need changing, which pushes the price up. But given the condition of the vehicle otherwise, you will have a very tidy Defender that won’t lose you money in the long term, especially as they are only rising in value.

The affordability is not an issue.
However, I would be doing it myself. Would not like to have anyone else do it, as it would be a full nut and bolt restoration.
I had a budget of 10k in mind, for a new Galv chassis , plus all typical items such as bushes, pipework, brakes etc.
My issue is time.
I don't see there being a time available over the coming year or so that would allow me to get it done.
Plus I'm considering something else that the sale of the vehicle as she sits, would assist in funding.

If it were me, I’d keep it and replace the chassis. However, it sounds like your mind is swaying towards selling, if you don’t mind me saying.

You are quite right. Have wanted a 110 for a long time, but we have a heavily refurbished D3 in the garage that we use for weekend camping and treks etc. The Defender would end up unused when refurbished , but that being said I do realise it is an appreciating asset.

I got my 110 Double cab re-chassied by Engine 710 in South Queensferry last July the cost was 6k.
I didn't need anything else done other than the chassis.

Does it need a full chassis or is it mainly the rear, would you get away with a rear chassis/crossmember?

Hard to value as is. £8-10,000? Looking at the doors l take it that it's a 2004-2006. And no aircon, so a County specification.

Restored and with that mileage l bet you'd get £25,000.
lf restoration cost £10,000 you'd be well up financially, not counting your time of course.
