Lost spare tire off roading

Can some explain to me what has happened here and if it is repairable please? I decided to go off roading for the first time today

and it looks like my spare tire has just snapped off.
 
Well the welds have broken.
It can be fixed if you have a welder. If you don't then you need to find someone who does.
Its a result of a big heavy wheel hanging off of it and getting bumped about. I'd suggest next time you go off roading to put the spare in the back, its a lot of stress on the back door
 
Yes you can repair that.
It does need strengthening with some gussets on them studs as thats a poor design and is designed to fail, but as Kev says it will still shag your door.

Swingaway spare carrier is the best answer, the britpart one is quite good for the money.

Cheers guys. Have just purchased this as the fittings are all the same. Will this work if I just bolt that on the back and screw the tire down onto it?

Having the spare wheel abut against those "back to front" wheel nuts is just wrong !
All the wheel & tyre weight is then trying to bend those long studs at the fastening with the plate / door.
Add in off-road up/ down movement & that will just break off. Its not a question of will it, it's just when will it break.
It would be far better to have the wheel & tyre clamped to the mounting plate by only using wheel nuts on the outside of the spare wheel - so that wheel & tyre can't bounce up & down.

I think the issue will be the same as your first one, ie the threaded rods are just plug welded from the other side.
If you enlarge the holes in the door then you could at least add a bead of weld around the other side of the plate, ultimately it will still fail but the extra welds will delay it somewhat, but like most things if you strenghten a part, all you do is move the stress elsewhere in this case into the door frame.

Look for a 2nd hand swingaway.
