Lost key

Hi ,I've lost my key for my Freelander 1,06 ,I've tried calling lock smiths but no luck , apparently I need a code ,has anyone advice on what to do please ,thanks ,Ste

Hi Ste.
When did you realise that you mislaid the key's, have you gone over your tracks, ie checked all pockets, the bin just in case etc.

Hi ,yeah I've checked everything and everywhere for the last month at least ,I lost it down the river Ribble ,spent hours looking thanks

There is a transponder in the key, which has to ‘talk’ to the ignition switch in order to release the immobiliser.
I believe your only option is to get hold of a new (used) complete set, including the ignition.

There's 2 RF type things - for the immobiliser and the locking. 1 is difficult to replace.

@pscan.eu has told us many times all about it.... but I can never remember which and what's easier to replace

It may be worth your while talking to a dealer to see what they can offer.

It will make your eyes water, but it will at least it will let you know what the top $ is before you work out how much you can get all the parts for (from a breaker) and the agro in fitting them.

no there are other options.
The immobiliser unit can be hacked, but you have to remove the dash top to get to it (or change it as you are suggesting).
In my opinion the best option is to take your V5 document to a Land Rover parts dept and ask for a new key, including a new transponder.
They might or might no claim that you need diagnostic time to enable the new transponder (which is part of the key), but, I don't think that it's actually true. The new transponder will come from LR already preprogrammed to one of the codes that's already in your Freelander, so, it should just work, and you avoid destroying your interior to get to it.
To answer Grumpy's question on a 06 there are two elements:-
1. The remote fob: you can get a used one and code it in with pscan or a T4. This only operates the central locking and alarm, it won't help you start the engine.
2. The immobiliser chip which is in the key. You can't easily code these in, which is why I say to just buy from the parts department already coded.

Thanks for the info ,sorry I hadn't seen it till now , doesn't sound great , costly

You only need a key, not the fob.
I'm assuming there it's a spare key available?
