Lost Drive on 61 Plate Defender 90

Hi All, I recently experienced a 'Knocking' putting into gear, which got worse, I 'googled' the problem which put me straight on to 'Landyzone' the problem is rife.
I put her on the ramp at my local garage, you could hear and see the fault was in the spline drive, as we came off the ramp, the drive went altogether!!
We got in touch with the nearest dealer, they admitted it was a common fault because the splines were not greased from new build at the factory ( the car is 5 yrs old and 30,000 on the clock )
I got on to the retailer who 'bottle shouldered' the whole thing and said I should have taken an extended warranty out!!
I then got on to Jaguar Landrover, and didn't get anywhere, so the bottom line is £1600 bill, which would have been £1500 more if we hadn't found an exchange transfer box!!

No, they are not even admitting there was a problem, Harwoods the West Sussex main dealer, told my local garage it was a common fault due to no grease, on the parts 'blow up' picture is shows a big sachet of grease and points to the parts to be greased !!
 
The parts themselves are that expensive if not bought from a dealer and it's easy to do if on the rear the front is more involved. I recall seeing another thread on here and on the series 2 club from a member who owned a new defender with the same problem. I can't remember how it was resolved but if I find it and he confirms Land Rover excepted liability then they can't really deny responsibility of the exact same failure.
 
This is the shaft that joins the gearbox to the transfer box (front to back) not sure what the correct name for the parts are.
I have been back to Jaguar Landrover, asked them to clarify why the parts were not greased from new, this being the case, they are not fit for purpose by law.
 
I think this is the famous input shaft to the transfer box, the older ones had no means of lubricating the splines, the new ones are drilled to allow the oil to go into the shaft and lubricate the splines on the gearbox output and transfer box input

Local independent landrover place might give you a better quote?

And I would suggest that you remove your postcode from your location. I dont think it is good for web security.

This is the shaft from the gearbox to the transfer box, it leaves the gearbox into an alloy housing ( completely dry, no oil in the housing ) it joins the shaft from the transfer box by another shaft, each shaft has a fine spline in a male/female coupling.
The good news is, by badgering Jaguar Land Rover non stop, they have just paid for all the parts, just shy of £900.00 !! Cheque just received.
