My mate has a 60 plate (2010) It's got the Ford 2.2 litre engine, but I can't remember what bhp that model has.
He's just messaged to say on his way home it lost a lot of power. Struggled to do 45mph and really struggled to get up any hills. On the drive, out of gear, foot to the floor on the accelerator it won't do over 3000rpm. First thoughts are turbo, but not revving over 3000rpm without any load is throwing me. I'm not familiar with this engine though!
What do you reckon, turbo or something else?

2010 will be the 2.4 engine, 2.2 os 2012 onwards. Ideally get diagnostics on it and write the fault codes down, I can then look at the codes list. Best to clear all existing faults then take it for a run to record the current situation. But I suspect a split turbo hose (between the turbo and intercooler is a weakness). Inspect the intercooler - the plastic end boxes split away from the metal core. To check this remove the front grille and inspect thoroughly. Both theses known issues should throw up the check engine light on the dash. Another possibility is a faulty sensor on the throttle pedal (its a fly by wire set-up).

Lots to go on there mate. Thank you. I forgot to say I asked him and no warning lights or engine check light came on.

Isn't this what garages are for?

And no, probably not turbo IMO.
