Thanks Andy, much appreciated.

I have got one of the exhaust bolts off ( through the wheel arch ) other one is a bit more troublesome, I can get a socket on it easy enough but little room to get a breaker bar or ratchet onto it to turn it.

Probably get this done before disconnecting that oil pipe, or maybe other way around......will get back under and abuse myself again.

At least the rain seems to have gone today.

Well I eventually ( after a break ) got the turbo out.....as expected the wheels are rattling about loose.

Assuming housings are in decent nick is it better to just renew the core or get a complete 2nd hand turbo......new is out of the question ( too expensive ).

Just replace the core (CHRA) with a quality replacement.

Hi, don't forget you will always get some play on the impeller shaft as the oil supply acts as a 'bearing' taking up a small amout play when it's spinning. If the impeller is touching the housing then it will, as Nodge says, need a new cartridge. I took mine to Turbo Technics in Northampton & they checked it over for free & said it was ok but given the fact it had done 147,342 miles at the time & I'd removed it anyway I got them to recondition it. So it might be worthwhile if there's a place near by that can give it the once over for you.
