Loss of front wheel drive

I've recently lost front wheel drive on my RR classic and need to locate the problem, what is the best way of finding out if it is the diff/axles or the transfer box?

You have probably stripped the splines off the drive member or broken a half shaft
What age is your classic ? - does it have a manual diff lock or a viscous coupling ?

It is a 1993 and has a viscous coupling.
