I have a 99 plate 4.6HSE with 168k and it seems to be losing water, the cylinder heads were skimmed and new gaskets added last year. If I fill the coolant bottle up to the mark when cold it sometimes chucks the water out of the overflow on the bottle. However it doesn`t overheat and when it reaches a certain level its fine and doesn`t always do it.

I have also a problem with the text book symbol which lights up after 10 mins of running but all the controls are working and heating works as it should is it time to be plugged in.

Think it may be time to get shot if its anything serious.
 
try and get it presure tested,it might show up any sort of external leak.ive just done mine today,pumped it up to 1 bar but after half an hour the needle had dropped just slightly,but i can,t find any leak as of yet,but i think it could be the heater o rings,the carpet isn,t wet just very slightly damp,it,s currently got a load of white tissue around the drivers footwell and tunnel,just to see if any coolant is leaking
 
i had this problem and i ended up buying some ironite engine sealer from ebay and hasnt lost any water since done over 500 miles since and is still at the same level as when i filled it up so for the sake of 24 pound thats what i would try as these engines are common for slightly hairline cracking in the block does it run lumpy when started up in the morning
 
P38 radiators are known to fail after a good few miles and give the symptoms you refer to. Last thing you want is an overheating V8. I had the same problem a few years ago after fitting new engine, flushed the rad-seemed clean as a whistle, changed the stat-no change, changed the rad-problem solved instantly.

i beleave mine was a crack in the block some where as when ever i started it it run very lumpy like it was running on 7 or 6 cylinders for a few minutes and i could smell it burning the anifreeze from the exhaust plus there was far to much pressure in the water system but the ironite completly cured my problem but it never overheated once

If you have a small mirror and torch you can just see the connection between the pipes and heater after removing the drivers lower dash side cover. Mine only seemed to leak while driving it and no real sign of a leak when cold.
 
well after yesterdays pressure test and leaving it overnight,there was a couple drips of coolant on the tissue in the footwell,this morning and seeing as i bought some o rings ive been out and done it,only took a couple of hours,after putting it back together i flushed the matrix out both ways with the graden hose,and then topped up the header tank bled it through and took it out for a run about 40 miles,ive since done another pressure test and the the gauge hasn,t moved yet,so fingers crossed another problem fixed,just waiting for the next one:rolleyes:
 
had a similar problem in my work vehicle, turned out to be a heat metrix, but i did have damp carpets
 
Found the problem, I have run the last 2 weeks on petrol only and water level has stopped on the mark. Turned it over to gas and it pushed it out of the overflow, so there must be a problem with the LPG plumbing.

Still think I may sell as I would like something sporty for summer, wife and kid don`t fit on the fireblade that easy and makes the handling crap.

So I have a 99/T 4.6HSE with 168k with history will be serviced and have 12 months mot if anyone interested.
 
the problem is the diaphram in the lpg vapouriser, should cost less than 100 quid for a new one or you may be able to get a repair kit for it. what lpg vap is it?
 
I have a 4.0 L Discovery, which has been losing water for the last 3 month's it was suspected the head gasket had gone. Took it back to thge garage, nothing, anyway two weeks ago found the leak from under one of the head's, leaking onto the exhaust, it took a while to find, so persevere.

When you rev the motor when standing you can see the water drop, then come back up again, ran it on LPG yesterday and water dropped funny thing is it only drops to the sane level everytime then stops.
