land rover freelander 1.8 k series engine; this has probably been discussed loads of times but my Land Rover is loosing coolant, as soon as you fill up the expansion bottle with coolant it’s slowly emptying in front of you but it’s not dripping on the floor or down the engine could this be a sign of the head gasket has gone even though the head was done a few months ago any help much appreciated thanks.

So pulling the dipstick, does it show a rise, starting it, does it kick coolant out the exhaust? Water pump is favourite, heater matrix another, are your carpets wet ?

HGF is my guess, only know 2 people who have not had HGF on 1.8K at some point, some more than once. Reckon it is being pumped out of an exhaust valve. Whip out your spark plugs and you should see clearly which one it is.
Never had a petrol engine vehicle, but I know a upgraded HG was manufactured for the 1.8k, Do you know if the HG was the upgraded one.

If the heater goes cold and warm, then there's air in the system.

As it's had a recent HG replacement, I'd suggest that it's not been done correctly. Incorrect or lazy HG jobs simply fail again in a few thousand miles, sometimes less.

Thanks for all the replies the vehicle is now not starting would a blown head stop it from starting or is this another problem completely, would a compression test definitely tell me that the head has gone cheers

Pull the plugs out and take a look at them. A compression test is often inconclusive as only small amounts of high pressure gas escape initially.
Have you looked at the oil to see if coolant has got into the sump?

Wont start because a piston compressing water entering the combustion chamber, was having a party with the HG breach whilst the engine was running, now the party is over..

I never went into the cause, but I wondered if it was because the design/gasket/bolt torque could not handle the turbo pressure
