Looking for stories from Defender owners for a research project

Why the South East of England only? This is a major flaw in your research, as one geographical area does not reflect the country as a whole, in fact the reasons for owning their vehicles are likely to be very different. For example, many of the Defender owners in my locale regularly carry a sheep or a haybale in the back, whereas in the back of a South East Defender it's more likely to be a brat called Oliver or Phoebe, or an antique commode.

Point taken. I have to concentrate on the South East at present for logistical reasons but certainly hope to expand the project across the UK.

Vehicle details, whats it worth, when do you use it, when you are in and when you are out, where do you park it and where do you leave the keys sort of thing then?:)

Oh and any security devices?

Logistical reason being I do not want to travel too far to nick someones pride and joy??

K Toth is a research assistant at the University of Arts London. Odd no K Toth listed under research staff????

Brendan

Don't give up your day jobs, I don't think that you're cut out for detective work.

I've had a lovely chat with her this afternoon, and she didn't actually ask whereabouts I live in the sunny and wealthy South East. Or the registration number.

If somebody were to join a hallowed forum such as this with nefarious intent, they'd be more likely to appear in the guise of an expert turbocharger designer or organiser of a charity don't you think?

I'm quite surprised at how negative some of you have been. You were perfectly happy to come on to this forum, introduce yourself and ask for Land Rover help from time to time. Not many have told what they do for a living - would your job stand up against all possible criticism? Mine wouldn't.

So K Toth is a research assistant at UAL but not listed on their research staff list??

KTF is likely to be a busy person as half her team on her other job are off to Nepal.

Telephone interviews lasting 10-20 minutes but for logistical reason only interested in SE England.

We do have telephones up here in the north and it is no more expensive to phone north of England from London then the SE.

A University Research Assistant only allowing herself 10 days to contact one of the main subject areas of her research topic?

Oh yes I have had just a little bit of experience of university research, ok nothing to do with telephone interviews but I would imagine that there would be lots of consideration of ethical safeguards, data protection etc etc. 10 days to reach your main target audience?

No obvious means of checking the authenticity of this research project?

Might be me being cynical/careful but I would rather be unhelpful then give out information over the phone to a complete stranger.

Why not email her and ask? Katelyn Toth-Fejel | Katelyn Toth-Fejel is a London artist and designer researching sustainable fashion and textiles processes. This research includes working with Natural Dyes and supporting the Permacouture Institute.

Hi Brendan,

All information is anonymous and no location details are being collected. It is ensure that participants can share their stories of use without compromising their security. I do need to meet many ethics requirements for this project but this stage is simply a call out.

I have been working on this project for a couple months and was looking for some final opinions in the next 10 days before this stage finishes, hence the short deadline.

Well, quite a lot of people ask me to move things around in the Land Rover. Indeed, when I bought it, I was surprised how many acquaintances had bits of furniture that needed shifting or chose that exact moment to buy an anvil on Ebay. I was wondering whether I should have bought a 110 rather than a 90. I'm in the East Midlands, so a bit out of range though.

..............

I'm quite surprised at how negative some of you have been..........

Seriously...? I am constantly amazed at the cynicism and negativity, esp if someone fails to 'introduce' themselves with references and a note from their Mum..... But otoh 5 minutes browsing would forewarn anyone of what to expect, and there's a lot of good stuff and skills in amongst the bo**ocks..... Cheers A

I don't get the 'introduce yourself' bit either. If you look at how many people actually read the introductions it doesn't seem to worry most people. The first 'actual' post usually tells enough!

As far as the OPs' deciding to post on LZ goes (and I didn't ask her), she may well have looked at all the other LR forums and seen how dead they were before risking it in an obviously 'colourful' place like this.

Lastly though. It took me a few seconds to check who she was and then to decide to help. My daughter is studying fashion too, although she's still learning how to sew pockets on, and I'm so completely in synch with the fashion zeitgeist. that it would have been churlish to refuse. Rather than take those few seconds though, others thought it easier to trot out accusations of dark deeds or accusations about us soft southerners not using our Land Rovers properly. As if. I mean, how else would I transport cases of champagne and foie gras across my croquet lawn on a damp day?
