Hello...

I'm interested in buying a new to me Range Rover Vogue... Maybe about the 5 grand mark.

Ideally cream leather but with TV screens in the headrests.

What should I avoid and why? As in, 4.6 is a 4.0 bored out so it's likely to suffer with issues due to thin block walls etc.

There's a lot of 4.4 motors on eBay... what's the lowdown with those engines? are diesels any good etc.

The P38 4.0 / 4.6 both have the same issues regarding liners. The 4.6 just has a longer stroke, same bore, same engine block. Not that many with TV screens but can be found.
The 4.4 will be the later L322. 5k will get you a tired early model. I'd avoid the diesel L322's unless you like changing gearboxes.
I'd have to ask what the true budget is. 5k for purchase or total funds. In most cases you'l need at least another 1k for first year maintenance...if your lucky.

ok....

I want another range rover...
Don't want a P38... they're good but too old now.
I'm looking for an l322 or a range rover sport.

around 5k price mark, so 2004 / 2005.

is that clearer?

Range Rover sports cars? You mean something like this? http://thecar4u.blogspot.co.uk/2011/11/land-rover-has-plan-to-build-sports-car.html

Or this?

They might be out of the 5k price range though ;) Especially if that includes your £1-2k contingency fund.
no... nothing like either of those and nor do I want or like an evoque... just a box standard range rover... not p38. l322 or RR sport.

Ok but your initial post was confusing as you covered options for P38 & L322.
I think your really going to struggle getting a Sport for 5k. I would opt for an earlier L322 V8 on that budget but hope you have plenty of cash in reserve.
PS, have you had a RR before?

Much better to have used the search button here first, all the things to look out for are here in the archives.
Nobody with any sanity is going to compile a list for every Tom, Dick or Harry who posts up a couple of sentences.
No offence intended, good luck on your quest.:)

Ps. If you can find a similar thread in the search function, by all means add a post on that so any further legitimate queries you have can be answered.

well... there's 3 range rover sport vehicles at around the 5k price range, so it turns out that you CAN buy a range rover sport for that kind of money... this week you can buy 3 of them for THAT kind of money.

Having sorted that issue, is there anybody on this site who actually knows anything about range rovers who can give me some practical advice on pitfalls of buying a used rr or is this forum full of armchair critics that are the 4 wheel drive equivalent of the p5 forum?

sorry... did I say that out loud?
