Looking for a series 2 or 3 project

Youngest son ( aged 13 ) has been saving his birthday , Christmas and Saturday job money for about two years and is now in a position to start looking for his own project series to work on and learn some skills so it'd be ready for when he can drive . He wants to do mechanics after school

Realise it's a long shot but if anyone knows of a heap / lovely old treasure that needs a lot of work I'd rather get it from someone on here than the unknown of eBay or the likes.

Happy to arrange a trailer as unlikely to be road legal / driveable and distance isn't too much of an issue as based in the Midlands

I've got a Series 2a soon to be for sale - LWB though so maybe not ideal? 2.25 petrol Overdrive, truck cab, loads of spares, including series 3 axles and box, mostly straight bodywork but chassis and bulkhead need work - both saveable if your lad learns to weld........................... Thank but think a lwb is probably not an ideal first drive plus with a 110, a disco and a Citroen already on the drive, space is somewhat at a premium - thanks anyway though

Realistically how much does he want to spend and how much of a project does he want? I've got a '65 swb that I'm toying with ebaying but it needs a fair amount of work, the only downside is that it's got a 3.5 v8 in ( downside for a youngster) but I don't know what it's worth

He may be better getting a cheap run about to drive for a few years as his first car.
I bought my series 2a 109 at 15 to restore as my first car. I kept it all standard and my cheapest quote after passing my test was £3000 a year. At 20 years old now Adrian flux will insure me for £800 a year but that's still the cheapest all be it with a 200tdi conversion and I've never had an accident or made a claim and live in the middle of nowhere so theft isn't an issue.

A lot of insurance companies won't even insure under 25 year olds on Land Rover defenders or similar vehicles. So you can only realistically go with specialists who will still want £1500 a year then plus poor fuel economy, and possibly tax if after 1975.
The rules may change by the time he starts driving maybe for the better or possibly for the worst.

By all means get one as a project as I really enjoyed doing mine but unless he or you want to pay extortionate amounts then you'll have a vehicle just sat on your already cramped driveway.
