You cannot be serious! He would spend another £2.5k replacing head gaskets in year one and it would depreciate to zero on year one - but I suppose they are cheap - I would go for the early diesel 2.0L Rover engine if on a serious budget - I had one for 10 years with no bother - not as good as the TD4 but a very capable and cheap Freelander.

I have 2 now, and have had another 2 previously. Though I replace the H/G as soon as I buy the car, never had 1 fail
