Hi guys I'm going to be driving my landy for about 8 hours on Saturday it only normally does 30 min trips other than checking oil levels is there anything else which is.more likely to fail with driving long distance. I know it's a stupid question but I'm sure somebody has forgotten something before I'll take a litre of oil and 5 of water just in case something goes wrong on the way but I can't think there's much else ?

Depends entirely how you maintain it IMO.
That said, for long trips I carry some tools, a pair of wheel bearings, and a UJ (you could just remove a prop to carry on, but meh)

If you look after it and service it when required it should be fine, I have covered over 1500miles in my 300tdi in the last couple of weeks with nothing more than apuncture, but after covering another 80 at home have replaced 2 bearings.
did a brighton and back in a weekend towing the caravan with no problem whatsoever a couple of months ago

Im doing a big trip on saturday too and like post above ^^^ just take your time enjoy it. My advice would be to take a sharp pencil and a note pad so you can keep note of all the new nosies that it developes that you might not of heard before ;)
 
Don't worry I've done 9 trips of 6,000 miles over 3 weeks each - only problem a damaged rear exhaust and new tyres - I have it fully serviced after every trip - and the cambelt done after every 30,000 - 300tdi 110 - rest of time parked up in shed!!.
 
Ok guys thanks I checked my wheel bearings last week so I'm hoping they are still oky jack it up and check just to be sure .....

I have checked all of the above I believe it's all good thanks for the various comments I'm sure somebody somewhere has forgotten to check something and found themselves on the side of the road I'm hoping not to be one of those people I'll be heading towards Dorset from

set yourself a maintenance routine and stick to it every month I do it with both of my cars and have had no unforeseen issues ever have faith in your abilities
 
I take the same in my 92 Defender as I take in my 2012 VW Beetle, my RAC card.

Why would I need anything else?!?
 
I've just packed my away box couple of spammers screw drivers a litre of each oil and a couple litres of water just in case I get a leak somewhere on the way.

Where are yu going, Martyn? And did you get the dents out of the roof and bonnet? :rolleyes:
 
I'm going gsdf on Saturday I haven't done the roof yet will do that another time I didn't notice that the bonnet was cracked as well as dented so I've got it as good as I can and left it at that
 
What are the brakes looking like? Fluid level in the reservoir? Any meat left on the pads/shoes? In addition its worth looking closely at the flexible hoses for any sign of perishing or chafing, and the metal pipes to see if there's any corrosion that looks like it is going to go through. I know the MOT people look for this, but I try to keep an eye on it myself from week to week as a lot can happen in a few months.
 
I recently covered a 7000 KLM trip across the Sahara, Morocco, Spain and France.Any funny noises and stiff steering disapeared during the trip. MAke sure everything is well greased up and go for it.

All looked fine when we were under it last week! ;)
