Took the car in today to get all 4 tyres changed and the alignment done, all seemed well. Driving home horrible noise from the front of the car followed by a bang! Instantly thought prop. Luckily it happened just as I was pulling into the drive. Hopped out, looked at the front wheel and the tyres was completely flat. Called the tyre place and the guy popped out to see the car.

They took the wheel back off and a spanner fell out! They had left a spanner in there, which has jammed and burst the new tyre. They have had to order a new matching tyre in. Going to get it jacked up tomorrow and see if there is any other damage.

Whoever they are, they're feckin inept.
Yup, totally. Just hope there isn't anything.else damaged in there. Getting it up on the back tomorrow and giving it a thorough examination. If there is they had bloody well pay for it or I will be seeking legal advice.

Muppets. What amazed me is how the fitter didn't notice the spanner when the tyre was fitted, then didn't notice he couldn't balance the bloody wheel.

I imagine it would have damaged the wheel too.

I doubt there's any other damage to the vehicle though.

Once sorted, I'd avoid then like the plague in future.

Bloody hell!

Presumably spanners aren't used for the tyre fitting - so the wheel would have been on and the spanner used for the alignment.

Was there any gauze and the surgeon's wedding ring in there to?

I imagine the spanner was left jammed on the track control arm, and entered the tyre when cornering tightly

That makes more sense. I couldn't see how a spanner got into a tyre while it was being fitted.
Still it's very sloppy workmanship and potential extremely dangerous. Just imagine if the spanner struck the tyre and got ejected while driving through a town. It could have caused serious injuries to anybody it hit.

Hoping there is no serious damage when I check tomorrow. Having a few Guinness tonight to chill out. Was going to spend tomorrow fitting my side bars and tpms but might leave that for now until it's all sorted. Still going to do the vcu test though.

On a plus note it got me out of visit the in-laws haha

Just wondering... If I have two new tyres on the back, and the spare and a new tyre on the front, am I likely to do any damage driving it like this? Or am I best waiting for the new tyre to be fitted on the front before I take her out again?

Bloody hell! Good job you weren't giving it some on a fast road

I was supposed to be heading to eyemouth to see the mother in law, so pleased it went on the way home from the tyre place and not on the way up there.

Just had a quick look underneath and all seems fine, Will have a proper look later. Drove it round the block as well and it seems fine. On making a bar so I can do the vcu test. So when I go out to do that later I will get it up on the jack and have a proper look.

Haha aye. You never know when I test my vcu later that night be alright as well! If that's fine then I an definitely putting a lottery ticket on!
