Good afternoon everyone first time posting, just bought a freelander 1 2003 diesel car pulls and randomly drops into limp mode, if I turn the car off and back on it goes off, not 100% sure what it is I’ve checked the pipes and they are a bit knackered anyone have any ideas?

There’s no smoke from the exhaust and when it isn’t in limp mode it pulls, it takes a bit to turn over maybe 3-5 seconds before it fires up.

Try unplugging the MAF sensor see if it make any difference, when did it last have a full service, oil/air,PCV filter's, fuel filter, where are you based?

I’ll have a look see if it helps, the guy I bought it off said he had it fully serviced with drop links done less than three weeks ago but to wether that is accurate or not is another story.

Did he look like this fellow below rubbing his hands with a oiled rag.

Luckily no haha the guy seemed very legit, needs some welding done and he’s offered to pay for it and any immediate repairs needed which I thought was nice, I’ve taken off the MAF sensor plug and it’s starting up quicker while I had the housing off I’ve had a look at the air filter it was very dirty so I’m guessing it’s not been changed
