Limp home mode.... WHY?

Guys, the D2 went into limp home mode the other day, put it into charles butler engineering, who plugged it in and found a fault with the selector solenoid thing-a-majig. Part replaced, halfway home and the same problem occurred! Any ideas?

If they replaced the WXYZ switch - seems to be what you mean, then have a look at the autobox loom where it comes through the floor and down over the back of the transfer box.Strong chance it has rubbed through and is shorting out intermittently.Lift it up and reclad it in a decent plastic shroud.

Problem went away yesterday, drove fine, back today though! Gonna have to get underneath and check this loom

I would also make sure the vehicle battery and alternator / charging system are 100%.

As UP said these cars and their electronic systems are rather sensitive to receiving good electrical supplies, so any weakness in the battery or charging system can cause this. Give your battery a good charge over the weekend and see if that cures it.

Also I found (as I've had similar issues) that if I start the car, then get myself ready to drive i.e. seatbelt mirrors check etc, BEFORE selecting any gears it helps the electrical supply to the gearbox ECU to stabilise and I found I had no more issues.

Right, drove it up onto some blocks earlier, chocked the wheels and left it a bit for the susension to settle(sometimes it vents), about 20 mins later went back to it checked looms, battery etc. all looked fine.... what i`m leading upto is this- While the motor was lifted at the front would atf run to the back of the box/sump and indicate for a while that levels were fine? Reason is, i let he motor back onto its wheels, started it, no fault... went for a drive all fine. So i headed ino town, halfway there fault re-appears,could the atf have worked into the system again and shown low levels, therefore causing the fault????

This problem is still occurring, but its intermittent, which surely points to a short somewhere..... or could it be transmission fluid level??????:doh:

i had this problem, changed gear selector switch like yourself but problem stayed. a friend changed some wires that plugged into that switch, i think they might have been a bit cooked from the exhaust pipe.i think its ok now but i havnt seen it for 2 months as it has been on a boat to nz and is now sitting in a napier AA yard waiting for a wof ticket after the robbing kiwi b****** have had my pants down over sandblasting the underside for no apparant reason... sorry about the rant

I am thinking its either a short somewhere or trans fluid levels

UPDATE- Took the landy back in to jeff butler, he gave the selector switch a little tweak and so far all is well. Apparently it wasn`t quite recognising what gear it was in, hence the flashing display etc.
