I have purchased some 2" lifting shackles for my 1973 SWB series 3 in preparation for some new 256/75 x 17 wheels and tyres.

I can see that I need to change the rear shackles that are located at the rear of the rear springs but the front springs have the shackles at the rear of the spring and not the front or the spring as I expected to find them.

My questions are:

1: Do I replace the front shackles as they are or fit the new extended shackles to the front of the leaf spring?

2: Has anyone here done this before for this sort of tyre fittment?

I don't drive the landrover far as it is a weekend toy. I am not too worried about the steering getting heavier but do still want to use it for off road fun.

Any help is much appreciated.

You just replace the existing shackles with the extended ones.
It does alter the prop angle though, it can cause a problem, but hasn't on mine. Rocky Mountain can supply correction angle wedges to fit between the springs and axle to sort it.

I did mine in order to fit 9.00 x 16 or 255/100R16. It did require other mods though.

Extended Bumpstops
Removed bracing from underside of rear tub
trimmed front wings and front light panel
trimmed back of front bumper
adjusted steering stops

They're a lot bigger than you're intending to fit though, 36.5" tall.
