Last few days my 90 is struggling to start. Used to just turn the key, no accelerator and it would fire up. Do that now and it fires then dies.

Needs a boot ful of accelerator to start it and then it will run fine.

Could the lift pump be on the way out?

Cheers

Ian

I've always wondered, would a test for this be to pump it manually a couple of times before start up to see if it solves the problem? though i suppose it depends on which part of the lift pump is gone.

bleeder out of filter and manually pump, see if fuel comes out. (check the lift is in correct position)

or for otherside, remove fuel solenoid wire to stop it starting and crank the engine.. does fuel come out.

or pipe off and stick in in a measuring container and note the output per stroke

Usually, at what point do these begin to fail? I'm at 110,000 - 130,000 miles atm and cold start up is a little crap and running is a little stuttery until up to temp, especially running on veg. For what its worth, (£20ish) would it be worth replacing it anyway?

EDIT: I doubt it has ever been replaced.

still aint right...

New leak off pipes, new lift pump. Still not starting well.

Sure she is putting out a fair old cloud of black smoke when she does start. Sure it wasnt like that before I started having hassle starting her up.

Any ideas anyone?

must be air allowing it to leak back.

check/change your fuel filter.. some are a crap fit. also check all connections fuelwise are good.
