lift kit advise on 2001 d2

Hi all

Ive just bought my 4th disco, a 2001 d2 td5 and im in the process of buying bits, im going to buy a lift kit this evening but dont know if i should keep or ditch the air bags:confused2: this disco is going to be my every day car aswell so dont know whether to go for this:

i know the air bags can be a pain in the ass and i am swaying more towards the Terrafirma but just wanted a second opinion before i spend my hard earnt cash....Tar

I did the second kit you list, with the plus 3 prosport shocks, but with the HD springs. Very pleased with it and very pleased not to have air to worry about.

Gave me about 2.5 inches lift. It's a little harsh on small bumps, rumbles, rough surfaces but perfect on bigger stuff and offroad.

I had the pro shocks on my disco and defender and they performed well, i do have a funny feeling keeping the air will end up costing me in the long run, just a shame to get rid as it does drive well

I went out one day and the front end was pawing the air ,I hadn't time to fanny around so I had a spring conversion in the back,she`s used every day.

Thats that then...and looking at your pics Orch yours sits just where i would like mine to, i've just fitted the same tyres as you i think, 265/75/16 maxxis bighorns?

You should probably look into getting a replacement rear propshaft which doesn't use the rubber donut at the back axle - the extra lift will kill that in no time.

Depends which pics mate, I've changed it about a bit. She's now on 285/75r16 Hankook RT03s. I had to add 30mm spring spacers to avoid rubbing though so she's now about 4 inch lift give or take a bit.

Here's how she sits now:

If I wasn't using it for work etc I would have gone for the 285s.. Looking good though mate 👍

Don't mean to hijack the post but I too have just bought a d2 1999 td5 and want to convert rear to coil and do a lift as the cooper discoverer stt's I've just bought 275/65/18 won't fit obviously. Will a 2" lift be enough for these? What other considerations are there on a d2 for a lift and what needs doing computer wise to remove the air?

Any reason to convert from air to coils? You can get spacers to sit under the airbags.
The front prop 'can' catch on the front cross member in an axle twister situation, this can be cured by spacers between the cross member and chassis.
As for 'computer wise' just need to plug into nanocom or the likes and tell the BCU air is not fitted to extinguish SLS warning lamps.
