Led interior project

Hey guys,

I'm in the process if drawing up ideas for an Led interior, footwell lights glove box lights , door pockets etc, does anyone have pictures if theirs?

I'm only really going to use white LEDs, but ideas are welcome!

I did this to my old vauhall astra when I was going through me boy racer phase will have a look for some pics if IVe got any... mine was all done in blue LEDs and neon/cold cathode tubes to match the cars paintwork, everything was colour coded blue to match and it looked gorgeous. I was thinking of doing the same on my freelander, green internal lighting, but somehow it just doesnt feel right doing dirty boy racer stuff to a hippo!

One of my favourite lighting mods was taking all the fan vents out, replacing them with chrome vents and mounting LEDs inside the air vents so they glowed blue, I also put a strip of flexible mini LEDs inside the speaker grills so they glowed too. I likes me glowy things I does!

At the very least though I am going to replace all the interior lights, courtesy light, map lights, glovebox & boot lights etc with bright white LEDs because the filament bulbs are a bit ****e!

I and a few others have put in led strip light. I got a 32 led in the back and plumbed into the rear door courtesy light, and now it is nice and bright. I also put in a moded festoon bulb which has a LEDs fitted to it. I think it was 16. So now the front bit of the landy is nice and bright.

Haha, I like the glow too! Going for white as it may look abut more sofisticated....

Hey....there's nothing wrong with a good pair of shoes!

Not a great picture but one white LED strip of 14 (I think?) under the back seat and one stuck to the beam just under the storage box.
I have the same on the drivers side and one above the back window which is a real improvement on the standard boot light.

That looks really good and wouold be perfect for mine as i live in the sticks and its black as **** at night. How did you wire them up ?

Me and electricity usually ends up as a bright blue flash and then headscratching at the fusebox

Most of them come with a 12v cigarette plug thingy on the end, I put all mine spliced into one and took the power off the back of the lighter plug. But that meant they were permanantly on when the ignition was on, which was fine for me because I was well lazy If you were feeling like doing some serious rummaging around you could splice them into the power feed for the interior lighting so they all come on when the doors open etc. Thats way too much effort for me though

I fed off of the interior boot light as it seemed easier than taking a feed from the roof light. I threaded the wires under the carpets, side panels and door sills with fused links to protect the circuit, splicing off to wire the LED's in series. It really is quite easy and shouldn't take more than an hour?
Yes, lots of wires but as Tiercel says, all the LED's will come on when you open the doors or boot.

Will the lights come on when the door opens if theyre wired to the boot? Wouldnt they only come on when the boot opens?

Also, I kinda fancy some of these, they look gucci as ####!

I have two of these, one just drilled into the bottom of the lip of the dash, just below the bottom of the glove box door.

Gives direct light into the footwell rather than background illumination. Much better for finding keys etc or your phone at night.

Yes all the lights come on with the opening of the doors or the boot and have the delay before going out after closing. Must be on the same circuit as the roof light I guess.
I have a 3 door facelift but would be surprised if the 5 door is different?

Oh right, didnt know that... then again its kinda hard to check the inside of the boot while opening the driver door and keeping the boot shut! Thats handy to know though, makes it a lot easier!

If you are wiring into the interior lighting circuit it is well worth adding a fuse to any additional lights, this will help protect the power transistors. Also if you are fitting leds into the roof lights? you may find that you need to keep 1 normal bulb, this keeps the power transistors driving a resistive load, they often go into protection mode and shut down with a pure led load.
