Leaving P38 Diesel with no battery for the weekend... Possible effects?

I'm thinking of swiping the P38s 130Ah battery to use in me caravan for the Chippy Run weekend, since the leisure battery in the Pikey wagon is buggered and I can't afford a new one right now :(

What possible ill effects might I get from leaving the P38 battery-less for a weekend? I've had the battery off it for a good few hours before when fiddling with electrics, and didn't lose sync or need the code when I reconnected...

Also... Will using the standard battery in my caravan just for a weekend bugger it? I'm aware of the difference between normal and deep cycle batteries, but can single use to possible deep discharge screw a normal battery???
 
If you disconnect it properly there should not be a problem. However when you reconnect the battery don't have the doors shut with the keys in the car. They will automatically lock when battery is connected if you have opened drivers door with key.
 
Cheers Wammers... actually, I was just thinking I could connect me charger before disconnecting the battery and leave it on that over the weekend... That should work, shouldn't it?
 
Dont connect a charger with the battery disconnected.Removing the battery will have no ill effect.I leave mine disconnected for months at a time when I am away for work .Deep discharging a normal battery may however lead to permanent damage.

My battery has been off for a week now while I do the O rings etc and I know it will have no ill effect cos I've done it before.
DO NOT leave it with a charger connected and no battery, Many chargers have poorly regulated outputs and may show 20 volts off load, it's the battery that serves to limit the voltage, some also have a high AC component, both are likely to be damaging:eek:
 
I hear everyone saying 'Don't connect a charger with battery disconnected' - but no-one seems to know WHY you can't do that....?

A charger is Designed to feed a battery needs if there is no battery how much will it be feeding think of it like that

I guess that would depend on the charger. Old chargers supply a higher voltage than 12v. Normally 14v but can be higher. Modern charges supply pulses of charge with different pulse rates and sometimes high voltage spikes. None of which harms the battery (and can actually benefit it). However, without the battery in circuit to "absorb" these pulses and spikes, I don't know what would happen. In fact, it might not even work as the smart charger should detect the battery was missing.

But I wouldn't risk it.... :)

No 12 volt charger puts out 12 volts, they always, even the good ones put out at least 13.8 volts and usually more or the battery would not charge. As you say the pulse output smart chargers might create havoc, or shut down.
 
the biggest thing with the windows is if they are not set you have to keep your finger on the botton the one touch wont work but the biggest issue is every time you turn on the ignition all the beeping and faults will wreck your head
