I belive the correct size fan belt is 1050mm, often the 3 bolts tat secure the alternator get siezed, mine were, but the bolts werent tight when it siezed.
The brakes, could be just rust on the drums as its been standing for a while by the sound of it.
 
Right, so I've got in there and got grubby...

Engine number starts 902, so three bearing.
Definitely twin leading shoe front brakes.
The belt is slack as anything, but it is actually turning the fan and alternator, so we'll start with a brush set in there.

It starts and runs sweetly now - the plugs had gaps you could drive through, and were absolutely gopping. Quick clean up, and it started immediately. I've even found the handle, and started it from that!

Oh, and the bullbar is off.
 
Alternator - check, recheck and re-recheck earths and wiring. Loose/dodgy connectors and wires worn through to the block are not uncommon and easily fixed, earths can be as simple as give the bolts a slacken off and tighten up. Is charge light on, is it off when engine is stopped?

It appears to have the post-July '80 brakes. Front are definitely TLS. Back drums say 10" on them. I think I've identified all the front bits needed, but I'm confuzzled about the rear shoes. The big pile of LR parts catalogue PDFs I've downloaded says RTC3411 as the shoe set.

Paddock have those, but no stock/price.
I've got a shopping list together with land-rover-parts-shop, but I can't find that part number on there. They seem to be suggesting STC2797.

But Paddock say they're for 11" drums - and my rear drums say 10" on 'em. Paddock say STC2796 for 10", l-r-p-s say >June '80... <scratches head>

Can anybody confirm which are the right ones? Or give me some visual cue as to which is which once the drum's off...? Master is definitely servo plus dual line.

Charge light is on all the time the ignition is on. ~12v at battery with engine running. Connections are all good. For £3.50 or whatever, a set of brushes might as well be to hand when I have a proper dive in there.
 
There were no landrovers with 11inch drums on the back (well standard ones) they should be 10 inch! (I could be wrong, perhaps the 1 tonnes did, but I'm sure normal ones were all 10 inch.
These are the right ones, so that's how they should look, however I think midst of famous four is Britpart so maybe not the best place to buy from :)

Just so you know, charge light will be on when ignition is on because the battery isn't been charged, when the engine is on, it may stay on, if you blip the throttle it should go away!

Yep, just like anything else. But this is just on ALL the time the ignition is on. It's not charging. At all.

So, crunchiness.

There's a small hole in the rear crossmember I hadn't noticed. Nothing serious.

The outrigger under the driver's feet has definitely suffered. Might be worth an entire crossmember, might get away with just a bottom on it - the sides are rock solid.

But this bit... It's under the front wheel, sorta under the brake master. That's the rear hanger for the driver's front spring. Bulkhead? It looks like a bolt-on section of wing.

Oh, and I was _most_ amused to notice that the sill "rockslider" tubing seems to have "THIS TUBE IS PROPERTY OF <edit> SCAFFOLDING" stamped into it...
 
I'm no welder but I would think it would be worth your while welding on a new outrigger rather than plate it. The box in the front wheel arch is the steering box cover. A fiver buys you a new shiny one and a bit more gets you a galvanised one.
Worth a look at Yrmlandrover.com for metal shiny things :)

Looks good! It has been fiddled with a little bit though :p

Steering wheel and wheel arches spring to mind :D Glad you took the bull bar off, looks much better without!
 
The arches (hard plastic) appear to just be attached with small self-tappers into the lip of the wing, nothing into the main visible panel - so I think one's going to be coming off to see what's behind. I don't massively loath them, and they probably are actually needed with those 265 BFGs, so they're not top priority. B'sides, the phillips screws are utterly rounded.

There's a galvo steering box cover on order from YRM, together with a stainless screw set for the floors. There's also a big order of bits from l-r-p-s on the way, most of the service stuff plus front brakes, plus a front number plate bracket off the bay. I'll figure rear brakes and add that lot to whatever I've forgotten or pops up when I'm fitting that first batch!

If anybody's got a series steering wheel, it'd be much appreciated - the combo of that shirt button plus those tyres is going to require some manhandling, I think...

Theyre some of the better looking arches ive seen on a series, I'll grant you that :)

Steering wheels can be picked up from ebay I think, theres usually a few on there
