Leaking swivel seal - MOT failure?

To be honest if it was me I would book the mot, then just before the mot station, pull over get under and give a quick wipe over with a rag or whatever.
It's not as if it's safety critical in the short term, so get the ticket, then sort it in your own time.

I did think trying that. I’ll post some picks of the ball and you guys can let me know what you think

Not sure of the exact MOT requirements for swivel grease. However, if you have an oil leak on the engine you're allowed the odd drip on the MOT station/Garage floor. If it creates a pool of greater that 10cm (can't remember exactly) in so many minutes, it's a fail. Hopefully, if the swivel grease isn't dripping on to the floor it won't be an MOT failure. @jamesmartin might be able to clarify this or quite a few other members are hot on MOT regs.

Having done both i can't agree with that, and the one in the picture from 2016 is still fine.

Here's a picture of the swivel ball - now that it's not under a foot of snow.

As mentioned, basically its just greasy (oi oi) now nothing dripping out. But before it didn't have this thin film of grease over it. What do you guys think? The other ball is clean as a whistle and I eye balled another defenders balls (oi oi oi) and they were the same, totally clean no thin film.

Is that a leaking seal now that Ive messed with the lower pin or am i worrying about nothing? I'm a perfectionist and anything that's not as it was before that I can't explain gives me palpitations.

Also it currently doesn't have an MOT as I mentioned so keen everything is perfect before I take it to the testing centre.

The surface of the ball does look dull, but there is absolutely no build up at the bottom of the seal and not even a sign of oil/dirt around the entire edge of the seal circumference.

Looks ok but the seal lip is a bit baggy are you sure it has grease in it?
Mine was damaged fitting the new one and that's when I cut the back plate and seal and slipped it on, took no time.

Thats how the 101 seal fits as the swivel is welded on the seal has a scarfe cut which you position at the top a spring with a hook goes round and 2 half moon plates bolt on to retain it in groove...

I refilled the grease so definitely has some in

Oil leaks are supposed to be an MOT fail. But having oil on parts of the vehicle isn't.
So my own experience is that if the oil is not running off the component, they will pass it.
Obviously, it will depend on the individual tester, but they would have to be pretty hardline to fail that.
