Appreciate your reply mate, but with two inches of water the carpet on passenger side is soaking with the water travelling up the backing foam, the back passenger carpet is now wet. I just don’t understand it, all joints have been taped up and it still gets in.

Further information on my leaking Freelander. I removed front seat today to let me follow a water trail, it led to the rear seats, so I removed the carpet in the boot. Very wet in the back, removed side panels, one of the offside rear side holes full of water. The only outside joints I have not taped are the sloping seals of removable top. Might fill them with sealant weather permitting.Back doors drains are clear.

My Freelander is now leak free. Started with the tool box full of water and two inches of water in passenger footwell. Removed all the bits in engine compartment to see where it was getting in, no obvious signs. Removed front passenger seat to lift some carpet to track the leak and also removed the back carpet. Parked my car nose first in drive which has slight incline and the passenger footwell dried. The water was coming from the back. Used lots of foot powder around the back to see where it was coming in. The seal on the removable top was the main culprit, so sealed the top on with sealant, also the two gaps on top of removable top that run front to back (one each side, one groove each side does not go through the top) sealed on top of the bar that goes over the tailgate window. Quite a bit of water was coming in through the bottom right of the tailgate seal where the seal had been flattened by the door. ( don’t believe the people who say this seal doesn’t leak, it does) I got a replacement seal from the scrappy but didn’t use it, it was a sod to get off the donor car and didn’t fancy trying to fit it on mine. What I did was cut the seal high on the right hand side and fed some rubber bungy cord into the seal which bulked the seal out. (See pic) door still shuts no problem.
Fiddly to feed it round but I did it with longer piece fed from the left side and shorter length fed in from right side till they met.

That's ingenious with the bungy cord - just so long as there's no to much pressure on the glass.

It’s only on the bottom half, not the the glass section
A bit of a thread revival this, but I found both footwells of my 2001 3-door had water on the rubber floor mats. They did not smell of coolant, so I think rain water. Plus there is a lot of leaf mulch over the scuttle panel - blocked drainage channels???
Do I need to remove the scuttle panel to clear the debris?
